How do clear aligners work?

Invisalign and Spark aligners

Clear aligners like Invisalign and Spark work by gradually repositioning your teeth to make them straighter. Made from BPA-free transparent plastic, the aligners apply gentle pressure to straighten your teeth.

Usually, you’ll wear each set of aligners for two weeks before changing them for the next set. Each set moves your teeth a little bit more towards your goal. They’re designed to be worn all the time, apart from when you’re eating or drinking, and it usually takes somewhere between 9-18 months to achieve the desired results.

Inman aligners

Inman aligners are a great option if you only need your front teeth straightened and if you need them done more quickly (they’re ideal if only a couple of your front teeth are twisted or wonky).

The aligners are mostly clear with a set of nickel springs that gently push your front teeth into place. As with Invisalign and Spark aligners, you’ll need to wear them for most of the day, except when eating, drinking or brushing your teeth. But unlike the other options, you’ll only need one set of Inman aligners which you’ll wear throughout your entire treatment.

Depending on how many teeth need straightening and by how much, your treatment with Inman aligners will likely be done within 6-18 weeks.

Your journey to straighter teeth

Step one

Speak to one of the team on the phone

This free, initial chat will go over any initial questions you have and make sure the team has everything they need to advise you. You’ll also be asked to send in photos of your teeth.

Step two

Free virtual consultation

Meet with your dentist on a video call to speak about your smile goals and go through treatment options, costs, and more. This is a no-obligation chat to give you an idea of the costs and timelines involved with getting your teeth how you’d like them.

Step three

In-depth consultation

Join your dentist for a full dental examination including scans, X-rays, and photos of your mouth. Your dentist will tell you more about their suggested treatment plan (including recommending the best type of aligners for you) and can give you information about finance options.

If you’re a nervous patient, don’t worry — your dentist is super experienced in soothing anxieties and will go at your pace, explaining everything along the way. We can also arrange sedation for you to make any treatment you have with us less stressful.

Step four

Let’s get your teeth straightened

Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth to make sure your aligners are made to fit. You’ll then be asked to come in and have the trays put in, where your dentist will make sure they’re comfortable and fit properly.

Then, it’s time to wear the aligners. For all types of clear aligners, you need to keep them in for at least 22 hours a day, only removing them to brush your teeth or eat and drink. Your dentist will give you all the information you need about wearing and looking after your aligners.

Step five

Monitoring your progress

Using our Dental Monitoring service, your dentist can track your progress from the comfort of your home - no need to visit for lots of check-ups. If you’re using Invisalign or Spark Aligners, you’ll need to change your aligners every couple of weeks to the next set, so your dentist will let you know when to do this through the app.

If you’re using Inman Aligners, your dentist tell you when to visit so they can adjust the springs.

On average, it takes about 9 - 18 months to straighten your teeth with Invisalign or Spark Aligners, or around 6 - 18 weeks to straighten your front teeth with Inman Aligners (your dentist can give you a more accurate estimate during your consultation).

Step six

Debut your new, straighter smile

Smile with confidence and enjoy your straighter teeth! We’re always here if you’ve got any follow-up questions.

It depends on your mouth and your goals, but it will take an average of 9 - 18 months to straighten your teeth with Invisalign or Spark Aligners. Your dentist will give you a more accurate timeframe.

How long do Inman Aligners take to straighten your teeth?

Inman Aligners are usually used if you’ve got minor wonkiness in your front teeth or only a couple of teeth need adjusting. Because of this, it’s a quicker process and generally takes 6 -18 weeks. Your dentist can give you a more accurate timeframe.

Do clear aligners hurt?

Clear aligners are designed to move your teeth gently and gradually, so you shouldn’t experience much pain.
